Introduction

The design agency Instrument assigned us to find out the solutions for their performance review system. The HR currently sends the questions on Gooogle sheets to the employees to collect their replies. Each employee has to choose 23 peers and will be assigned an additional 23 peers to review once a year. The company is looking for a more efficient solution for the evaluation process to fulfill the goal of employees' growth.

Problem

Employees could have the chance to give a peer review to someone they don't fully know based on limited information. This might cause the low quality of the reviews due to the superficial opinion on the peers.

Users Need

Review Tasks

Employees should be able to get a bird's eye view of their review cycle.

Track Strengths and Opportunities

To track personal progress employees should be able to review the key takeaways from all previous performance review.

Author Self-Assessments

Employees should have the tools they need to author their own self-assessments in order to provide self-reflection surrounding their experience

Author Peer Review

All employees should feel welcome to provide peer feedback at any point.

Solution

Create an integrated platform that provides each employee's profile with related information about the experience they had in the company to make the review more intuitive and solidify the connection between employees.

Visualize the progress

Showing the current phase of the whole eval progress to remind the users to complete it on time.

Submit the eval by question

Allowing users to fill out the review for the individuals progressively.

Showing the complete rate of the review for each individual to make the progress state more specific.

Employees' previous work

Provide the project information as a reference for users to evaluate peers' performance.

Peer List

The pages list all of the employees in the company. It's also the entrance of individuals' detail information.

The grid shows the information clearly.

Too much scrolling when applying carousel to large amount of objects.

Custom Preset Copy.png

The four-column grid could be too crowded that too much info displayed at once.

Question Form

Question form pages include the questions about performance evaluation which allow users to fill out and submit the answers.

Peer Review 1.png

A clear list of collapsible shapes guides users to click on it in order.

Peer Review2.png

The bullet points don't look like they are clickable.

The cards make the order of the questions unclear.

Progress Board

The progress board is to reveal the current progress of the evaluation in detail and provide access to continue the reviews from wherever users want.

The percentage doesn't show efficiently how many questions have been completed.

The fraction clearly shows the number of the incompleted review questions with the charts.

User Flow I

Christie wants to know more about Dustin before she starts the peer review for him, so she takes a look at his information and the projects he has done. After knowing Dustin more, she then writes the peer review for him.

User Flow II

There are only 12 days left to submit the evaluation. Christie wants to know her current progress and continue the self-assessment section.

Conclusion

The project is about connecting the employees by providing relative information in the evaluation process. Although the system could not solve all the problems of the current approach, it still addresses a part of the core issues in the process. There is still a lot of opportunities in the design to enlarge the benefit it could give.
